I’m a proud husband to Runé and father to five wild little kids — four boys and one girl, including a set of twins. My family is my anchor, and they’re woven into everything we do at Hook & Bullet. Behind every adventure, there’s someone holding the fort. For Hook & Bullet Adventures, that someone is my wife, Runé Petzer. Runé is more than just the numbers behind the scenes — she’s the heartbeat of our family and the quiet engine that keeps our ship steady. As a dedicated mom to our five young kids (four boys and one brave little girl), and as our full-time accountant, she somehow manages to balance both chaos and calm with incredible grace. From managing finances and making sure every detail lines up, to keeping our home running while I’m out in the field — Runé plays a vital role in our story. She brings order to the wild, strength to the soft moments, and reminds us all why we do what we do. She’s not in the spotlight, but her influence is everywhere — in every handshake, every invoice, every client we welcome, and every family memory we make. She is the mother of the Petzer vessel — our anchor, our compass, and the steady wind behind our sails.

Kate Holzmann serves as the U.S. agent for Hook and Bullet Adventures, based out of Texas. A proud graduate of the Texas A&M Class of 2025, Kate’s passion for the outdoors runs deep. During her time at Texas A&M University, she played club soccer and served as an officer for the Texas A&M chapter of the Texas Trophy Hunters Association, where she was actively involved in raising funds for Texas Hunt for the Cure—a nonprofit organization that takes children and young adults facing life-threatening and life-altering circumstances on their dream hunting and fishing trips. It was through this work that Kate first connected with Johan, the founder of Hook and Bullet Adventures. Kate’s connection to Africa grew even stronger through an internship in eSwatini, where she developed a profound love for the continent, its landscapes, and its people. That transformative experience continues to inspire her work with Hook and Bullet Adventures, allowing her to help others experience the thrill and beauty of hunting and fishing across Africa. In addition to her role with Hook and Bullet, Kate is also a farm and ranch real estate agent based in Texas, helping clients find their own piece of land to enjoy the outdoor lifestyle. Whether it’s the rugged beauty of Texas or the expansive plains of Africa, Kate is passionate about connecting people to the land and the adventures that come with it. As the U.S. liaison for Hook and Bullet Adventures, Kate is dedicated to helping clients plan and experience the hunt or fishing trip of a lifetime.

Raised on a farm, Christiaan’s connection to the bush began early. At just seven years old, he joined his father on his first springbuck hunt—and he’s been hooked ever since. Now, with over sixteen years of experience, his passion for ethical hunting and the outdoors is stronger than ever. When he’s not in the field, you’ll find Christiaan golfing, fishing, or testing his limits on a motorbike in the mountains. Grounded, driven, and always chasing the next adventure, he leads every hunt with purpose and respect for nature.

Born and raised in the rugged hills of Stutterheim in the Eastern Cape, Mike is both a stud sheep farmer and a seasoned professional hunter with Hook & Bullet Adventures. He began his journey into the wild at the age of six, guided by a respect for conservation and ethical hunting practices. Honest, loyal, and quick with a good joke, Mike makes every hunt an experience to remember. Whether tracking game or swapping stories by the fire, he brings expertise and heart to everything he does in the bush.

Every outfitter needs a right hand. I’ve got something better — I’ve got Xolile Poni, or as we all call him, X. X is the man we trust with our lives — and that’s not a figure of speech. He’s the kind of person who fits into any role without hesitation or ego. From babysitting our kids like they’re his own, to being my second set of eyes in the veld, X is always where he’s needed, doing what needs to be done — often before anyone even asks. He’s the man guiding the team of porters down the mountain with your trophy kudu, while you’re already back at camp with a hot shower and a cold one. He doesn’t need applause. He doesn’t chase a title. He leads by example, driven not by ambition, but by purpose.
