About Hook & Bullet Adventures

Hook & Bullet Adventures isn’t just a safari company — it’s a way of life.

Founded by Johan Petzer, a passionate outfitter, husband, and father of five, Hook & Bullet was built on the values of respect for nature, ethical hunting, conservation, and real human connection. What started as a dream around a campfire has become a place where hunters, anglers, and adventurers from across the world come to find something deeper than just a trophy — they come to find purpose, friendship, and wild beauty.

We operate in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, one of the most challenging, remote, and rewarding hunting environments in the country. Our terrain is rugged. The animals are wild. And the hunts are earned — not handed to you. Whether you’re stalking kudu through thick bush, drawing your bow on a mountainside, or fishing for tuna off the coast, this is an experience that stays with you for life.

We believe that adventure has many forms — sometimes it’s tracking game, sometimes it’s sitting around the fire with good company and sweet thorn wood burning, and sometimes it’s taking a loved one on a wine tour or shark cage dive while you chase your next trophy.

A trusted network of chefs, trackers, porters, and family — all working together to make your safari unforgettable.

We’re not five-star. We’re not fancy.
We’re real, and we’re proud of it.

This is Africa the way it’s meant to be experienced — raw, honest, and filled with firelight.

Whether you’re a bowhunter, rifleman, angler, or just looking to experience South Africa the right way, you’re in good hands.

Welcome to Hook & Bullet Adventures.
This is where stories are made.

Why Hunt with Hook & Bullet Adventures?

At Hook & Bullet Adventures, we understand a concern many American hunters have:
“Why hunt in South Africa if I can’t take the meat home?”

And it’s a fair question — especially for blue-collar hunters who work hard, save up, and want to get real value for their money.

That’s exactly who we built this experience for.

When you hunt with us, you’re not just booking a safari — you’re stepping into an authentic, ethical, and meaningful adventure. You’ll harvest your own meat and enjoy it fresh on the campfire with your group. There’s something deeply rewarding about cooking and eating what you’ve hunted — under the stars, with good people, and a fire built from sweet thorn wood.

But the story doesn’t end there.

The rest of the meat from your hunt doesn’t go to waste. We donate it directly to local villages — places where, quite frankly, God only knows when last they had a proper meal with real protein. Your hunt feeds families. It brings joy. It brings relief. And it builds bridges between hunters and communities.

We believe that every plate of meat we donate is one less reason to poach.
One plate at a time, we’re making a difference — and it starts with you.

So if you’re the kind of hunter who wants more than a wall mount…
If you want adventure, purpose, and a story worth telling…

Then welcome to Hook & Bullet Adventures.

We don’t just hunt.
We feed. We conserve. We give back.

“A trophy on the wall is great. But feeding a hungry family? That’s a legacy.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When is the hunting season in South Africa and when is the best time to come?

South Africa's hunting season is in our winter June, July & August (also depending on state and species hunted). However, we hunt high fence areas stretching over 15,000 acres. By law regulations, we may hunt high fence areas (7ft High) from 1 Jan to 31st Dec. The areas must be no smaller than +/- 1,000 acres. None of our areas are under 2,000 acres and the smaller areas are normally low fenced areas.

Are there any licensing or permit requirements for hunting in South Africa?

You only have to have a valid hunting license for the province (State) you are hunting in. Your professional hunter and outfitter will take out a license on your behalf.

Are there experienced guides available, and is their service included?

You will have a qualified guide with you at all times and their services are included.

What is the cancellation policy in case I need to change my plans?

Hook and Bullet Safaris only require a $1,000 (USD) non-refundable deposit to hold the date and the remainder of the designated package amount 30 days prior to arrival.
